Regional Extension Centers
CalHIPSO is one of 62 federally designated Regional Extension Centers (REC) and the largest REC in the country.
A REC is an organization that has received funding through the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC); under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) to assist health care providers with the selection and implementation of electronic health record (EHR) technology.
During the course of the REC program, CalHIPSO provided assistance with demonstrating Meaningful Use for more than 10,000 safety net providers in California. CalHIPSO members have earned more than $200 million in EHR incentive payments through Medicare and Medi-Cal.
